Funding Our Future

The Waysmeet Board has approved a campaign to raise the funds necessary to support a Director for program expansion and financial development. Our goal is $230,000 over three years. In this period we anticipate the programs Waysmeet offers to multiply, our partnerships to strengthen and the Waysmeet vision to capture imaginations all over the Upper Midwest. We believe we can make a difference in the lives of families and individuals and that this is the logical next step forward. Click here to view our plans and goals.

Programs Grow in Breadth and Depth

We were so happy Dan Snyder, teacher at Pendle Hill Quaker Study Center, returned to the Upper Midwest this spring for his second workshop in the "Peacemaking and the Life of the Spirit " series. His work is critically important to help peace builders of the region maintain a vision and orientation that is grounded in peace and escapes the cycle of violence. We look forward to his return in the fall for the third session "Forgiveness and Reconciliation" on October 21-23 at Inspiration Center Near Walworth WI. He will also provide the first workshop in the series, "Nonviolence in Personal and Political Life" on October 28-30 at Villa Maria Retreat Center, Frontenac MN which is an hour from the Twin Cities. Click here for more information on our Peace Building Retreats.

We also had the pleasure of a workshop by J. E. McNeil who is the executive director of the Center On Conscience and War in Washington DC. She presented a Conscientious Objector (CO) training for trainers. The participants who gathered in Madison to become CO advisors for young people then organized into the Wisconsin Draft Counseling Network.

Family Camps Start in June 2005

June 10-13th starts the 2005 Family Camp season with a return of Clare Norelle and Jeffery Lewis as leaders of a weekend entitled "Stories From Our Lives"

Clare Norelle (at left with her son) is a storyteller and songwriter who leads creative arts workshops exploring many themes, including cross-cultural connections and movements for social justice. Jeffrey Lewis is a professor of Human Development and Family Studies who researches the role of culture in human development, and often uses storytelling in his teaching. Together they are the parents of three headstrong and creative children, all of whom love stories. Click here to see the other Family Camp offerings in August and September of 2005.
